The Springfield City Jail officially opened its doors back in 1996. The Springfield City Jail opened its doors right after the Legal Center/Police Station.

For the next 20 or so years, the Springfield city would then work closely with the county jail when it came to be housing all their inmates.

The correctional team was tasked with the care along with the custody of all inmates who they were in custody. While their main duties were the classification and booking of inmates, and the transporting inmates between facilities and the courthouse.

The correctional team is also responsible for ensuring all inmates get their three meals, monitoring visits, supervising work crews, and ensuring the inmate property is handed back to the inmate when they are released.

You should also know that the Springfield City Jail also works closely with the Windsor County Department of Corrections when it comes to housing their female offenders as well.
